During therapy, clients may have a strong tendency to accept gifts. Therapists do not accept gifts during therapy. When a therapist accepts gifts, the client may feel exploited, believe they have a better relationship with the therapist, or the client's act of bringing gifts may be an attempt to enmesh the therapist. Sometimes, it can also be interpreted as a transference of a dependent personality. Accepting gifts, as the initiator of such a process, harms the therapy process.
